Home-owning Couples Argue Over Home Improvement Projects

New research has found that many couples who own a property together argue about home improvements.

According to a survey conducted by Independent Network, one in six couples have had a falling out about home renovations, with many arguing over the cost of potential works.

One of the biggest issues seems to be with finding the right tradesperson or company for the job, with 53 per cent of people stating that they regretted not getting more quotes. In fact, over one-quarter of those questioned said that they believed they could have had the work done for a lower price if they’d taken more time to shop around.

However, it was the men in the couples who were typically expected to source the quote, with seven in ten of the men surveyed revealing that it’s usually their job to call around and get the estimates.

The research also found that installing a new central heating system and/or boiler is one of the top five projects that homeowners want to tackle.

This is definitely one of the projects that you want to hire a professional for, so make sure you hire the best central heating engineers in Essex if you’re planning to carry out this kind of work on your property.

Among the other top home improvement projects named in the survey were fitting a new bathroom, installing a new kitchen and carrying out a garden makeover.

Earlier this year, research from YouGov and John Lewis Home Solutions found that 63 per cent of people feel uncomfortable carrying out DIY tasks, in many cases because they are scared of messing up.
