London Encourages SMEs To Go Green With Boiler Scheme

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in London have been encouraged to adopt new energy-efficient heating systems through the launch of a scheme to replace old boilers with new models.

The capital’s mayor Sadiq Khan’s £10 million Cleaner Heat Cashback initiative will not only save businesses money on their heating bills by getting new boiler installation in Essex, but they will be able to do their bit for the environment by using more energy-efficient systems that do not waste heat.

London’s deputy mayor for environment and energy Shirley Rodrigues said companies could save themselves hundreds of pounds every year with this scheme.

“Tackling London’s filthy air is one of the Mayor’s top priorities, and this is just the latest in a package of measures that he has introduced to improve the quality of air we breathe,” she stated.

SMEs in London, from sole traders to limited companies, who want to take advantage of the initiative will be able to apply for between 30 to 40 per cent cashback to put towards a new boiler. It will work on a first-come-first-serve basis and is only available until the £10 million runs out or March 31st 2020.

Existing heating systems, including gas, oil or LPG, need to be at least ten years old, or run on coal or biomass to qualify. Find out if you are eligible for the cashback initiative by taking a look here.

It is not just businesses that need to consider swapping their old boilers for newer ones, as a recent survey from GoCompare Home Insurance found 37 per cent of homebuyers are put off properties with dated heating systems. Therefore, sellers could be inclined to replace their boiler to tempt more people into taking their home off the market.
